From 2001-2005, two Practitioner-Research Associates worked as half-time ESL teachers for Portland Community College teaching the Lab School classes and worked half-time as researchers. The collaboration between the practitioners, university researchers and students in the MA TESOL program at Portland State University is an important aspect of the Lab School.

Currently, several teachers from Portland State’s Intensive English Language Program are part of a larger team of researchers and practitioners designing research projects for the purposes of improving instruction and the experiences of international students at Portland State.
